Exclusive Children Christmas Sessions 2020

Posted in: Children, Christmas Sessions

Toy shop exclusive Christmas session with clients and Santa .

November was truly an amazing month here at the Studio, It went so quickly, I still can’t believe we are already in December how did that happen? Its definitely been a year to remember,

Its been a year full of change for all of us. So when it came to Christmas sessions, I knew I wanted to make them truly special for the families that we’re able to pick up a spot for their children.

Due to COVID 19, I had to limit the number of spots offered and space them apart to keep each family and me safe. I truly loved creating these setups. I will explain a bit of the process and planning that went into these sessions as It was truly a labour of love and I tried to make each one was slightly different.

My goal at Pretty Dreams Photography this year with these exclusive Christmas sessions was to make images that were truly meaningful and that captured the magic of Christmas and the stories of childhood at Christmas time. I love telling stories that can be cherished for years to come in a timeless way.

All our kids and families have gone through so much this year, They are only little once and I truly want families to hold on to that feeling of Christmas.

Planning of Christmas Sessions

I started planning these sessions back in July and I truly love spending time, planning out each little piece of the setups. I do a lot of sketching and writing out of ideas months prior to these sessions and working on the blending of colours and which mood I’m going to achieve.

I love pulling items out from the studio and seeing what works and what doesn’t work and how it all fits in. Then there is getting items made specifically for my sessions and the studio like my rocking horse which was custom made specifically for these sessions and for me by a local small Amish shop.

How clothing adds to the mood:

Clothing is a big part of Pretty Dreams Photography, I love texture and colour and unique items and beautiful fabrics, it changes the mood of an image. I love blending colours that work to fit into my vision and this year I wanted yellow, red and green as focal colours.

Plus I got to work with some truly amazing designers, that helped me bring my vision to life. Honestly, the wardrobe was one of my favourite parts of putting these sessions together. I wanted timeless pieces that have a classic feeling and can be cherished for families for generations to come in images that cant be time-stamped but carry special feelings and stories behind each one. I feel like a child at Christmas when the outfits start arriving. each one is so special to me and to my clients in the final images.

It changes the entire feeling around the image and the final piece of art for my families that come and see me.

Changes in the year of 2020:

Covid brought alot of changes to the studio this year, I had to limit the number of sessions done this year, due to the extensive setups and because they were indoors, Alot more planning went into place this year, So after the planning and all the items were in the studio, each item in the studio was meticulously cleaned during the setup and right after they were used. an air purifier was in place and masks by parents and I were used.

I truly wanted to make these as safe as possible while still making it a truly fun experience. All the outfits were washed and steamed prior to and after and some even dry cleaned in between sessions like my wool pixie outfit. The nice part was I have such a large Studio wardrobe and spaced out that I was able to work around dry cleaning delays and giving each session a unique feeling and look etc.

This year I was able to create some of my favourite Christmas photos to date for clients, So without further waiting here are some of my very favourite photos taken during these sessions. I want to thank these wonderful families for letting me create such magical pieces for them. It was truly an honour and a blessing to work with each family this year. May you all be blessed with the most incredible Christmas holidays. Stay safe and sending love to each of you.
